Project 2-Villa Savoye Geometry Analysis Drawings

  • Draw a square, then connect the midpoints of each sides, draw a diagonal.
  • Divide the big square into 16 small squares.
  • Split out a little distance above and below the square scheme, and the distance value is determined by these two triangles. The value is 1.25m. And the side of each small square is 4.75m.

  • The width of the ramp is about half width of small square side.
  • The length of the ramp is twice the length of small square side. The width of the platform is half the width of small square side.
  • The distance between the intersection of two lines and the center point of the square scheme to be the radius to draw a circle. The circle intersects the middle lines at two points. Then extend the two points to get the shape of the ground floor.

  • To determine the position of the staircase, draw a line from upper left corner to the middle point of the line below the ramp.
  • To determine the entrance.
  • To determine the position of garage, draw a line from the upper right corner to the middle point of the line below the ramp.

  • On the ground floor, there is a clear symmetry of the square grid. However, the staircase creates a little asymmetric.
  • On the second floor, there is no exact symmetry line. But the diagonal from the Southwest to Northeast creates a sense of balance. This balance also comes from the division of the exterior and interior space.
  • The wave lines below and above the square grid seems to be the air and light. That represents the air and light movement accessing the raised structure.
